I’ve never been employable. I could never really work for somebody else. Which is why in 2010 I started my first business. It was a publishing company. It didn’t really work out.
A couple of years after that I decided to start an SEO business called Yo Media.
We have a really great product. We do SEO exceptionally well.
But where I was banging my head against the wall was trying to figure out, “How do we grow this company online?” Which is kind of ironic. We had a great looking website, but it didn’t work to get us more customers.
I knew that if I was going to grow the business I had to solve this marketing problem.
I tried to avoid it by just doing good quality work and hoping to get referrals but that’s not really a strategy.
So I decided to be an adult and I went super deep into marketing. I read all the books. I did all the courses. I paid a ton of cash for workshops and I came across this one idea of focus.
The idea was that a normal website says everything about your business.
Where as a single focus landing page with no menus, just one page built specifically for a type of customer, that was supposed to be the holy grail.
I was a bit skeptical. I was like, “How am I going to sell this to my customers?
They expect a full website. How am I going to give them just one landing page or one page?” They’re going to think, “Oh this looks a bit spammy to me,” or it’s too “salesy” or it needs more information.
I thought, “Yeah, surely you need more than just one page to be able to sell your products and services online.”
People are going to want to know more about you. They’re going to want to go deep into all your products and all your services and reviews and all the details and information etc.
At the time I was pretty desperate and I was happy to try anything. I decided to give it a go for Yo Media. I built our first landing page….. and it worked.
Within the first three months of sending that landing page live we got 42 new customers.
I was blown away.
But the problem was that our customers still weren’t happy to purchase just a landing page.
I thought to myself, “Well how do we give them what they want, which is a traditional website, but also give them what they need, which are these landing pages that actually generates more customers?”
Because to them it’s not about the website. It was about getting more customers and more leads and more sales.
We developed this product and all of the sudden people started buying from us.
Because we could give them what they wanted, which were these traditional websites, and in the back end we put in these landing pages that they could use in their marketing. It worked.
Within the first six months of doing this for Yo Media, we doubled the business.
Then 12 months after that we doubled it again. We’re on track to doubling it again over the next 12 months.
Our customers are stoked because they now get 400% more leads and sales through their websites than what they used to get.
They can generate in three months what used to take them a whole year to get.
They’re stoked. And it’s been really rewarding for me, not just from a personal wealth point of view.
I’ve been able to grow the company, but I’ve been able to also grow an amazing team here.
It’s also rewarding to know that we can go into any industry and employ these same strategies and they work.
So if you’re out there and you’re banging your head against a wall trying to figure out how to grow your business online – you’ve got a website, you’ve done the SEO thing, you’ve done the AdWords thing, you’ve done social media marketing – and none of it has worked, just know that there is an answer to that problem.
